'City & Guilds Certificate in Concrete
Technology & Construction'
The WelTec Concrete
Technology programme covers the competency based New Zealand
National Certificate in Concrete Technology (Level 4) curriculum
and also prepares the student for the highly prestigious international
qualification, the City & Guilds Certificate in Concrete
Technology and Construction (Parts 1 & 2).
A career in Concrete Technology starts
by enrolling on the one year part time concrete technology
distance learning course at WelTec. After completion of this
course you will be prepared to sit the City & Guilds Certificate
in Concrete Technology and Construction (Part 1).
Successful graduates from Part 1, which
focuses on concrete production can go on to complete Part
2, which focuses on concrete construction. This one year part
time distance learning course will prepare you to sit the
City & Guilds Certificate in Concrete Technology and Construction
(Part 2).
Apart from the examinations, study is undertaken
at home. Students wishing to complete the competencies for
the award of the New Zealand National Certificate in Concrete
Technology (Level 4) will be required to attend a two week
block course at WelTec to complete the practical competencies
in the programme. Please

Concrete Structures Seminar Series
The Concrete Structures Standard (NZS
3101:2006) has undergone a major revision, updating critical
information that is expected to have a significant impact
on structural and civil engineers and building inspectors.
A series of seminars designed to assist the understanding
of these key changes will be presented by Dr Richard Fenwick,
a researcher at Canterbury University's School of Engineering,
along with Dene Cook, Project Manager at CCANZ. The seminars
will:
- Explain the new layout of the Standard
and where to find information about it
- Identify the key revisions that
have been made
- Explain how the new loading Standard
has been integrated into NZS 3101
- Provide a summary of changes to
the:
- Design section
- Seismic design section
- Wall section
- Fire section
- Durability section
- Revised appendices
- Explain how layout and summary
tables can simplify the design process
- Provide attendees with the opportunity
to ask questions about the Standard.
